Caring Community

Temple Beth Tikvah is a community that cares for its members and all human beings. Included in the daily worship service are several mitzvot that we are obliged to do for their own sake. Among them are: visiting the sick, consoling the bereaved, and making peace when there is strife.

Our Caring Community Committee performs mitzvot on a regular basis. We provide an outreach to Temple members who cannot come to Temple events, those who are hospitalized, home bound, or can no longer drive. We also try to help with specific needs, such as rides to doctor’s appointments and to worship services. Members of the committee, including our Rabbi and Miriam Van Raalte, make phone calls and visits to member’s homes, checking in with them and keeping them connected to the Temple. On holidays, such as Thanksgiving, Rosh Hashanah, Chanukah, and Passover, goodie bags are delivered with small gifts and items for the holiday. Twice a year, on Chanukah and Passover, home bound members are invited to attend a special program at the Temple where a delicious meal is served.

Temple Beth Tikvah is a Kehilat Chesed, a community of caring that value the inherent worth of each member and each person from cradle to grave. The very important work of our Caring Community Committee is one expression of this mitzvah.
