The Rabbi Asa Education Fund
In Memory of Rabbi Haim Asa, z”l
Ten years ago, Haim and Elaine Asa and others in our congregation pursued a dream of building a new educational facility at Temple Beth Tikvah. Through the generosity of the many people who gave to Project Legacy, that dream became a reality and we now have the Asa Center for Lifelong Jewish Learning.
The dream was not just about constructing a building but also to spread the joy of Jewish learning to people of all ages. The dream was to fill the Center with children attending Religious and Hebrew School, with adults studying Torah and Tanach, and with classes and speakers, all to further Jewish learning here at TBT and in North Orange County.
Therefore, to continue this dream, we have created the Rabbi Asa Education Fund. The purpose will be to advance the future of TBT through educational opportunities for our community. The Fund will be used to educate and inspire through accessible and personally meaningful Jewish learning experiences here at Temple Beth Tikvah.
This Fund will provide special learning programs at TBT for our young students and scholarships to those in financial need for our Religious School. It will also fund adult educational programs such as lecture series and weekend scholars in residence. Topics may include Jewish ethics, Jewish mysticism, philosophy, Jewish history and culture, Jewish belief and practice, and current topics on Jewish life.
Jewish learning is a lifelong journey. It nourishes the mind, it gives us clarity in troubled times, and it helps us find meaning in our lives. It is fundamental to Jewish life. We hope this Fund will help to ignite a passion for learning in our community which will, in turn, enrich the lives of all at TBT.
The creation of this Fund was inspired by Greg and Sheri Weitzman who furnished the Meal of Condolence after Rabbi Asa’s funeral. The Weitzmans were able to express their love and appreciation for Rabbi Asa through this personal and generous donation. The Rabbi Asa Education Fund will make it possible for others to also contribute in a meaningful way in recognition of how Rabbi Asa has touched their lives.
Donations may be made to Temple Beth Tikvah with the notation “Rabbi Asa Education Fund.” We appreciate your generosity.
zichrono livracha – may our beloved Haim’s memory be a blessing to all.
